More insight into my twisted everyday life than you ever wanted.

Okay, the goal here, was to take pictures of all of us dressed as awesome, hot, viking or amazon warriors in a melting castle ice sculpture.

Unfortunately, we couldn't get to the ice sculpture, and we ended up looking like cavewomen instead of vikings or amazons.

At least we were hot cavewomen.(Well, technically we were COLD cavewomen, as we spent like 3 hours in the snow wearing short skirts and fake fur...but the fur was pretty warm...)

Following are some GOOD pictures, some weird pictures, some really dorky pictures of me laughing (I never realized I was so hidous when I laughed...I'll try not to do it anymore for your sakes.) and some really ridiculous pictures that were meant to be a story line that we all made up between our fits of laughter.

Yes, the last 6-8 months have been difficult for all of us, and we found that we desperately needed this day of silliness.

So....here goes.

The cast: Katrina (brown) Me (White- which makes me the good guy) and Rachael (black)

A cavegirl walks into a bar...oh! I mean, to the 'wrong side of the tracks'

And suddenly sees another cavegirl (I'm SUPPOSED to shop this so that I'm holding a knife so that I look scary...but alas, I am lazy.)

Cavegirl Katrina is ready to defend her territory!!! (I'm supposed to shop THAT to be a club)

They start out by backing away. Every cavegirl knows that you need some good momentum before a chick fight.

But they nearly colapse in laughter...

before smashing into each other as though they both slipped on banana peels at the same time...except I dont' think they HAD banana peels back then, let alone bananas.
The chick fight is less effective...WAIT! They hear something, HIDE!!!

...in this fort some kid made before we got here....

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!! Run away run away!!!! It's bad guy cavegirl Rachael, who is beating our snow house with a flaming stick!!! (Again with the photoshop thing.)

Uh oh! We have to join our forces to save ourselves!!!!!! (Once again, I am supposed to photoshop a giant saber tooth tiger in there..if I ever get around to it I'll let you know. HOwever, I'll let you know right now that I fashioned that awesome bow on the fly with a stick and a piece of leather thong we had lying around. Aren't I sufficient? Really REALLY good to have around in case of a Saber Tooth Tiger attack.)

Poor mean girl cavegirl Rachael died from complications with the Tiger. (Shop: scratch marks)

But WAIT!!! Cavegirl Katrina can save her with Caveman CPR!!!!

And so, it ends, with our heroine cavegirl Brae being sacrificed in place of cavegirl Rachael.

******************************

Okay, now for the really good and decent pictures.

Kay, if I have ANY good physical qualities at ALL (and it's okay to agree that I don't have many- because it's true) I have really excellent legs.

It doesn't matter what Rachael wears, she looks like aristocracy.

************************

And now, the dorky, funny pictures:

Cavegirl cannibalism. ...I honestly do NOT know what she was doing....

The cavegirl booty quake

a cross between cavegirl vampire and cavegirl Marilyn Monroe...

Rachael looks like she's reciting Shakespeare, but I'm holding a rock that looks a little like an arrow head.

Cavegirl bridal shot.
I know. I'm a dork, and you probably don't know anyone who would do something as ludicrous as this.
Please dont' stop reading my blog because I'm a nerd.

"SHHHHHH!!!! OR YOU'LL WAKE THE BABY!!!"

Vote For Use @ Top Mommy Blogs

(Please vote for me!!!)

(And PLEASE learn about Scarlet and help me help the children of Primary Children's Hospital!)

the three of them about the age that Lilly and Mahone gave up naps.

Scarlet- about 7 months here.

Lilly- Age 3

Mahone, Age 2.

Lilly and Mahone both stopped having naps the summer before last. Lilly was 3 1/2 and Mahone was 2. Lilly would have continued them, but Mahone wouldn't stand for one, and Lilly declared it "unfair" to make her nap without him. Scarlet, being only 5-6 months or so continued to have them.

Now-a-days, she's still sleeping at mid day. The exact times vary, but generally her nap lasts from around 12:00pm to 4:00 pm.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Scarlet has her nap at my mother's house while Lilly and Mahone attend a preschool taught by my mom. She LOVES this, and loves her bed there, which, she thinks, is just for her. It makes her feel special. I love these days too because 1. I get to nap, blog or otherwise goof off online for 3 whole hours while my children are all occupied. 2. There is no one for me to have to continually "SHUSH!" while she sleeps!

*****

The other day, Lilly and Mahone were watching their regular afternoon cartoons. I was messing around on Blog Frog, and my son dropped a toy. It made a noise, but not a really loud one. As my Scarlet was napping, and this is well known in our house as quiet time, I went to whisper a sharp and probably mean sounding "SHHHHH!" - but my son beat me to it. Without looking up, he yanked up his hot wheels car and said quickly "SHHH!"

So I had to stop and think. And laugh, of course.

"Shhh" is a reflex in our house. Just like "I love you", or "knock it off", or "I don't THINK so" or "don't hit your sister".

It doesn't really matter where we are. It can be church, the store, the park, my back yard, the car- whenever one of my children raises their voice, I find myself whispering "shhh." (Not always so harsh as it is during Scarlet's nap.) Usually, my kids don't even really notice that I say it. Still, I have to remind myself that they're kids, and shouldn't always have to be quiet.

As for now, though, until I have a house full of kids who DON'T need naps, I'm fine with "SHHHH!" being sort of an extra appendage. It's like a proverbial arm i can use to reach out and smack my noisy kid upside the head without causing either physical, or emotional damage- well, at least that one is minimal.

Touchy Topic Tuesday: School Regulated Birthday Parties???

Some Things To Talk About Before We Get Going:

1. Thank you to A Belle And A Bean for participating in my FIRST MEME yesterday!!! Unfortunately, the two of us is as successful as it got today- that's okay- but don't forget to join me next Monday for Brag & Blab Mondays!!!

2. It's a new month and I HAVE to defend my title! Please vote for my blog on Top Mommy Blogs by clicking on the button on my left sidebar- that's all you have to do- just click.

3. Last but not least, don't forget to vote for May's book club book on the right sidebar. This month, we are reading The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.

4. I apologize profusely. My camera lens is all wonky right now, and I'm not sure when we're going to be able to have it fixed. I have a few prospects. But for now, it's either old pictures or...well, old pictures. Sorry. You'll actually have to READ my blog for now. ~Wink~

Welcome to Touchy Topic Tuesdays:

School Regulated Birthday Parties

Recently, I enrolled Lilly in the local kindergarten, and received paper after paper after paper regarding rules, regulations, privacy practices, lists about what to do in an emergency, and a waiver I'm supposed to sign saying that I understand that if my child is to have a birthday party involving anyone in the class, the whole class has to be invited.

That means, if I invite one of the girls in the class, i have to invite all the girls. If I invite one boy in the class, I have to invite all the boys.

To me, this is one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard in my life.

Okay. I understand to a small degree. A child passing out invitations in a classroom where they might not give an invite to everyone can be controversial in and of itself. No one wants to feel left out. I get it. And in class party situations, like Valentines day, I agree. All children should be required to bring a valentine for all other children. And I can see the waiver asking me not to pass out invitations at school so as to spare the feelings of a child who was not invited, and to request that a parent mail the invites instead. But no one should be required to invite someone to their birthday that they don't want to be there.

Think about this for a moment though. The average public school class contains between 29 to 35 students. There is no way in HECK (I'm a Mormon, remember? We don't say Hell.) I'm going to have a party at my home to hold that many children, nor am I going to rent a place big enough to hold them. When we have a birthday party for one of my children, it will be because they want to invite several close friends. That doesn't necessarily mean an entire class full of kids. (It also doesn't necessarily mean NOT an entire class full of kids.)

As a child, most of my birthdays were spent with family, but I did have a handful of birthday parties, most of which included 4 or 5 of my closest friends from school or the neighborhood. One party, when I was 8, i believe I had as many as 10 friends to, but that was pretty big for me.

The dilemma here is this: In school, I had a lot of friends, but I also had enemies. I mean, nothing like Batman vs. The Joker or anything, but girls who were the antagonists in the story of my life.

In second grade, there was this girl named Kirsten who purposely stole every friend I ever had, and then would leave me out of all their play.

In third grade, this girl Angie, who looked a lot like one of the Chipettes, and sounded like one too, continually stole my crayons, markers, gloves, the Doodle Bear i got for Christmas, and other things out of my backpack. Three of my best friends that year were boys- but one boy, Bradley (who later became one of my best buds) filled my gloves or hat with snow between each recess so that it was either freezing cold or soaking wet when i put them on again. Plus, there was a group of 3 girls who continually taunted me because they saw me holding hands with this boy, Matt once.

In fourth grade, there was a girl, Liz, a GIANT compared to me- she was of Samoan descent and I was this skinny, short little slip of an impish girl that barely came to above her waist. She called me Norfin Troll because I had so much thick hair. She tackled me to the ground in the lunch line once because I was wearing a Chicago Bulls jersey, and she said I wasn't allowed to.

Fifth grade, a girl named Alicia would lean over and put her elbow on my paper so that I couldn't write on it. Mature. I know. Even for an 11 year old. Her last name was Hansen- the same as mine, and so we always were next to each other as the teachers did everything alphabetically.

In sixth grade, I had to change tracks from D to A, and ended up miserable with a bunch of girls who were rich, well dressed, snobby and refused to recognize that I was there at all.

In all grades I was well aware of the many parties i was not invited to.

However, there were also several per year that I WAS invited to, and rarely felt bad that I didn't get to go to a party of a person who didn't like me.

Likewise, as charismatic and outgoing and accepting of everyone as Lilly is, I am sure she's going to have best friends. I am also sure that she is going to have kids that don't like her all that much, or that she doesn't like. Kids are cruel, and there are no exceptions. Someone, somewhere is going to make fun of her and hurt her feelings, and proverbially kick her while she's down.

And that school is dreaming if they think that, in the case of Lilly (or any of my children) having an antagonist in their life, I'm going to invite someone to their birthday- a day that is supposed to be happy, and comfortable, full of people who they love and who love them- they're crazy if they think I'm going to invite someone to that who makes my child feel inadequate, hurt, or anxious every school day. Why in the world do they think i would invite that feeling into my daughter's life at home?

Now, I can absolutely understand certain points of this. Never would I DREAM of inviting a whole class full of kids and leave out a single one or two students. If it were such a party that it came to that, and all the class was invited, then yes, even the mean girls/boys would be invited.

I'm also not dumb enough to think that all parents are like me and think this logically. I know that the school is doing what they can to protect those one or two students that might not get invited to that birthday party.

So then, is posed another question: Is it really such a good idea to shelter our children from any kind of disappointment that might come their way? Are we really doing them any kind of favor by teaching them that life is fair? Not every person gets invited all the time. Not everyone grows up to go to the school they want, or ace every test, or nail every interview. Not everyone is going to like you wherever you go, and it's not okay to be mean to someone and still get the benefits of being a friend. There are going to be teachers who aren't fair, or bosses who are overbearing, and that's something everyone has to learn to deal with.

So, what do you think? Do you think, as I do, that this is a really stupid rule? Furthermore, with the birthday party rule being just the tip of the iceberg, and, admittedly, minor and petty to dwell on in the long term scheme of things, another question is- Do you think it's a good thing for us to shelter our children so much from the 'unfairness' of the world and of people?

My new Meme and Not Me Monday!!!!

I am NOT using Not Me Monday in the hopes that everyone sees the first day of my first meme, and chooses to participate!!! **Okay- for REALLY REAL, I participate every Monday, so that's not ENTIRELY true. Mckmama, I'm not JUST taking advantage here! LOL!***

I also did NOT wait until Saturday night to get my kids Easter basket stuff.

This morning, I did NOT eat half of their candy.

I did NOT sleep through part of conference. (I LOVE you guys [First Presidency, Apostles, 70's] but I was just so dang tired.)

Adventures of a Wanna-Be Supah Mommy

Over at Supah's, I also participate in "All About Meme Mondays" where, today, we're talking about Love Languages.

I took the quiz, and it turns out, my love language is:

Quality Time
In the vernacular of Quality Time, nothing says, “I love you,” like full, undivided attention. Being there for this type of person is critical, but really being there–with the TV off, fork and knife down, and all chores and tasks on standby–makes your significant other feel truly special and loved. Distractions, postponed dates, or the failure to listen can be especially hurtful.

I absolutely did not expect this. My husband took one of these quizzes for a class in school, and said that he thought I was the one who likes to recieve gifts. I thought so too- and I'm not talking about expensive jewelry or major worldly things- just like, when he brings me my favorite candy bar from the store, or flowers. That kind of thing. Nothing big.

Though, when i took the quiz, and got Quality time as a result, I thought, right away, that it fit. Brandon and i don't get a lot of time together. He works full time and goes to school just about every night. He has Sundays off, but those don't count. So when we have 10 minutes together, it's so very precious.

Time for my NEW MEME!!!!!

Brag and Blab Mondays!!!!!

First step: link to my blog by grabbing the "Brag & Blab Monday" button on the upper left sidebar.

Step two: BRAG!!!

Okay, I need to clarify. This isn't your regular "I'm happy because...." post. This isn't your run of the mill "My kids are so cute because...." post.

No, no, no, this is a blatant "I'm BETTER THAN YOU BECAUSE...." post. You can brag about something you did, how you look, what your child did, how your hubby is so awesome, etc. It doesn't matter. But it HAS to be actual BRAGGING.

Step three: BLAB!!!

Spill it, sister! Give us the dirt, the dish, the scoop, KISS AND TELL! I wanna hear your complaints, your gossip, who did what, and why your mom or mother in law is so awful!!!

(I know. Satan is clearing out a room for me in Hell.)

Now, I know a lot of us have family members or friends who read our blogs and you don't want to dish the dirt on them here. That's fine! I'll settle for a pity party about how your weekend sucked or you wish you had more money, or you hate the color of your car. Fine with me!!!

I hope you all participate! I PROMISE to leave comments for everyone who links up! Hopefully, you all find this fun enough to come and play!

MY INPUT:
Brag: Yeah, I have the worlds cutest kids. I really honestly do. I really don't know any cuter kids, and no, i don't think I'm biased!

Blab: I am SOOOO ticked! My camera (Nikon D40) is broken. I don't know how because I'm overprotective of it, and always very careful. I went to take pictures of my kids when they were getting into their Easter baskets and it wouldn't auto focus, nor would it let me manually focus the lens. For some reason, the lens won't rotate. So I'm pissed. Again, it's one thing after another, and now we either have to spend the money to get it fixed at a shop (which might not be too expensive. Brandon thinks that it should be an easy fix- there's a lose part of the lens inside that we can't seem to get into place, but otherwise, nothing seems to actually be broken or cracked- hopefully it's not too expensive.) OR we are going to have to buy a new lens (the camera itself works just fine.) 200 dollars or so, but Brandon thinks that might be cool, because then he could get his 55-300 zoom lens that he has been drooling over for like 3 years now. Unfortunately we don't have 200 bucks. GAH!!! I'd honestly rather have to survive without my internet/blog than my camera. I take pictures of my kids daily! (okay...hourly.)

Okay- tame blab, I know, but that's the thing that's been on my mind and really really frustrating lately. I am perfectly sure that I'll have lots more things to complain about and lots more drama to relate.

PLEASE participate and help me get this show on the road!!!

Sunday's Sonnet

" It is Finished"

"Why Weepest Thou?"

"Hope"

In honor of Easter, and the glorious resurrection of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, and was raised again to give us eternal life.

John Donne

Sonnet #72.

DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee, 5
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell, 10
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.

MY NEW MEME, Feel Good Friday, and Letters of Intent

(For Feel Good Friday and Letters of Intent, please scroll down. Before I get to that, I'm going to announce my new MEME!!!!!!!)

My new Meme!

I'm very excited to announce "Brag & Blab Mondays"

I have, for a long time, wanted to host my own meme, complete with a Mr. Linky and everything. And I have wracked my brain trying to think of a topic that everyone can relate to, that everyone can do, and something that they would want to do.

Okay, so if you know me at all, you know that I'm a total attention diva. I hog the spotlight. Or try to.

If you know me at all, you know that I am also a huge bawl bag. I complain about everything. I know. Negativity is soooo not becoming. Technically, bragging and gossiping are never in style...but here, on I am NOT a VOLCANO, Mondays showcase an awesome fashion show for the proud and sharp tongued!!!!

Yes, I know. I'm ahead of myself. It's Friday. Not Monday- but I'm bringing it up now to let you get a head start.

First things first: GRAB THIS BUTTON FOR YOUR POST!!! (also available on my left sidebar)

Feel Good Friday!!!!

Five things that are making me happy:

1. Tomorrow, I get to go take Amazon Warrior Princess pictures with two of my very very good friends! If you know anything about me at all, you know how excellently superb this is to me. I LOVE dressing up, putting on war paint, and taking pictures. It's awesome.

2. I am not kidding. I am physically FIGHTING the urge to pee on a stick (pregnancy test)- I can't possibly get a positive until like Monday or something, but I am really feeling like this is THE month!!

3. FINALLY, I think we've made some headway with the military and the ability to get our children's complete shot records. HOORAY!

4. Conference is coming up this weekend. For those of you who are not LDS, Conference happens in April and October. It is so wonderful- when our Prophet and the apostles, and other important people at the head of our church speak at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, and it's broadcast all over the whole world. I always love conference, and I look forward to it immensely. If you'd like more information, check it out further, or watch it this Sunday (10.00-12.00 for the morning session and 2:00-4:00 for the afternoon session.) go to http://www.mormon.org/

5. Easter Sunday is on Conference Sunday this year! That's so awesome because it means my kids can do Easter egg hunts and eat their candy at home instead of whine through church because they want to go home and eat their Easter candy.

Foursons

Dear So and So...

Dear Utah Drivers,

Please, PLEASE, for the love of all that is holy, figure out how to use such things as left turn lanes, roundabouts and blinkers.

See, whoever it was that invented traffic laws, well, let's just say that they were smarter than you are.

A turn lane, for example, makes it possible for you to turn left without having to slow down in the middle of the street and slow down the traffic behind you. If I had a nickle for every driver who slowed down before getting into the turn lane, I'd be rich. And if I had a penny for every driver who forgot about the turn lane altogether until the very last possible moment and came to near stopping before getting in the turn lane, I'd be a millionaire. PEOPLE: No one behind you should EVER have to slow down if there is a turn lane.

Roundabouts are just as bad. Friends, a roundabout is NOT a FOUR-WAY-STOP. The whole point of a roundabout is so that you DON'T have to stop at all! I mean, by all means, YIELD, but there should not have to be 6 or 7 cars lined up behind you to get into a roundabout because all the drivers on all sides of the roundabout are treating it as though it's a four way stop. Seriously, people? It's a good thing you do not live in New Jersey. I think your heads would explode at the thought of a jug handle. (For those who are reading this and don't know what I"m talking about- it's when you overshoot the left turn you want to take, and turn right onto a one way road which flips you around- as in, you drive in a half circle- nothing actually FLIPS you around- and then drive straight through a light onto said left turn instead of hanging an actual left....oh, did I hurt your poor head???)

Last but not least: Blinkers. Yeah, those blinky lights aren't meant to be pretty, they are meant to communicate your next line of action to people who are behind you or who are headed toward you on the opposite side of the road. If I am sitting at a stop sign, ready to turn, and you do not have your blinker on, I am going to assume that you are going to keep going straight, that it is your right-of-way and that I need to wait my turn (remember that lesson in preschool?). If I am sitting there, as you come down the road, waiting patiently like MY mommy taught me, and, instead of going straight, as your lack of a blinker is indicating, you turn down the street I'm on and go past me, well, then you've just wasted my precious time. (And yes, my time IS more valuable than yours. I'm a mom of 3. So eat that.)

I think it would be a good idea for all Utah drivers to study up on the rules of the road. I have.

Signed,

They Drive Better In Texas.
