Bonbons

So, sometimes, when I tell people I'm a Stay at Home Mom, they respond, saying "Oh, you don't work."

Um....yeah, I work. Are you KIDDING ME? Do you NOT know exactly how much time four kids, a dog, a husband and their cooking, cleaning and laundry takes? Do you NOT know all the places a mom of four has to drive? From the doctor, to schools, to lessons, and so on? Yeah. It's work. A LOT of work.

I still can't quite shake the feeling that the kind of people who have the audacity to mutter "so you don't work" to me, think that I sit around and eat bonbons all day.

No. I don't.

But I DO have a really excellent recipe for them!

INGREDIENTS:
1 12oz package of chocolate (I use semi sweet chocolate chips, but you can use any kind of chocolate- including milk or bittersweet, and any brand.)

1/3 cup of heavy cream

1tsp of flavoring (orange extract, vanilla, almond, peppermint, cinnamon, raspberry, rum, and so on.)

**************************

In medium pot, melt chocolate and heavy cream, stirring constantly. LOW HEAT. Cream and chocolate scorch very easily if they are heated too quickly. On low heat, this only takes about 10 minutes, so don't rush.

Pour into a bowl and add your flavoring. Stir it in really well, and then let set in the fridge for 1 hour and a half to two hours- until it is hard, but not solid, easy to roll into balls with your hands without slopping into a mushy goo.

After you have it set, roll small pieces into balls, then roll them in powdered sugar, cocoa powder, coconut, sprinkles, nuts, or whatever you want for all kinds of delicious textures and flavors! Have fun!

Place on waxed paper, chill in the fridge for a short time, and enjoy!!!!

  2. Oh my Goodness! I'm SO with you on this post! Being a Stay home mom requires a LOT of work! And you don't get Days off or paid vacation or Sick leave!

I was just talking with my friend last night; she is in college doing University Studies..and taking Culinary Arts classes; and she gets teased a lot because it's University Studies and not some Major Career making Degree; but really all she wants is to be a homemaker. Seriously; when did the Ultimate career become so looked down on? My Favorite quote is from C.S. Lewis: "Homemaker is the ultimate career. All other careers exist for one purpose, and that is to support the ultimate career"
After my conversation with my friend last night I'm thinking I will be creating an article on Honoring Stay at home Moms and Homemakers as a Valid Career choice.
Sad to say we used to Tease my own mom about staying home and eating nothing but BonBons...Boy were WE mistaken! lol. But she does like a good BonBOn too; and I"m LOVING your recipe. I will definitely have to try it out! It is very similar to my Ganache Recipe! oh yum!

  5. People say that a lot to me too. They really have no idea how much harder you have to work when you are a stay at home mom.

  6. I'm a mom and a realtor... I've had people say that I don't work either. UGH! It's so frustrating. I'll eat these bon bons all day if that's what people want. :) Not Your Ordinary Recipes

  9. The bom boms look good, but you are so right, being a wife, mother, having elderly parents, 2 grandchildren, & worked for 30 years too, people don't know what they are talking about, I praise anyone who can stay home & be the best of all these, because today it's not easy for one to work, takes 2 to make ends meat.
